Who is
ant bear?
Anthony Berenguel (aka ant bear, aka AB) is a multidisciplinary creative based in the Denver metropolitan area, working across visual art, photography, and music. Originally from Des Moines, Iowa, he has lived in Colorado since 2010, where his passion for the arts has continued to grow and evolve.
Anthony’s initial interest in art, music, and photography was deeply inspired by his father, who immigrated to the United States from the Philippines in the mid-1970s. Growing up, Anthony witnessed his father's creative gifts firsthand. His multi-instrumentalist father played in several bands spanning a variety of musical genres, exposing Anthony to a wide range of styles from an early age. That diverse musical upbringing is part of the reason Anthony’s own music is difficult to classify within a single genre.
In addition to music, Anthony saw his father take on the role of family photographer — a quiet but lasting influence that would later inspire him to pick up a camera himself. For years, Anthony viewed his father as musical and technically skilled, but not necessarily as an “artist” — until the day he discovered a collection of his dad’s high school and college sketchbooks. Though his father had always encouraged him to be creative and to draw, Anthony hadn’t realized that his own love and gift for drawing came from him. That discovery changed everything. It revealed a deeper creative legacy — and a connection that continues to shape Anthony’s work to this day.
In many ways, Anthony inherited his most cherished talents and creative instincts from his father — and continues to honor that inheritance through everything he creates.
